What a wonderful adventure I have been on – conceiving, writing, rewriting and rewriting and rewriting and now publishing my first middle grade fantasy! The cover is different and intriguing, the illustrations by Sandra Salsbury are amazing, and my young beta readers are eagerly awaiting their personal copies. So excited for the launch on Saturday, May 20 at the Mustard Seed Bookstore in Bath, Maine. It is so appropriate to have the launch at the Seed as the book was written there, week after week sitting at the back table, drinking tea from my dragon mug and snacking on a delicious molasses cookie. In a few days, I will hold the finished book in my hands – tears of joy, for sure!!
I’m so excited to report that The Call, a middle grade fantasy, has gone to press. The process of writing a chapter book, after five picture book releases, was eye opening, difficult, and rewarding. The process of publishing it was an adventure I can’t wait to repeat. Modo and Eboo will be ready to meet you on May 20th at the Mustard Seed Bookstore in Bath, Maine. You can then begin your adventure in Anterg, learn about the magicks and naturals, and discover the magic of music and the arts.
When the book is available, the ‘Buy Now’ button will appear on this page next to a picture of the cover. Hope to see you in Anterg soon!
With my second major revision off to the editor and an illustrator chosen, my middle-grade fantasy, The Call, is beginning to feel real! There have been days of wondering just how to proceed, and there have been 10 hour days when I couldn’t write fast enough. I am learning so much and am grateful to my editor, Eric, for his guidance and thought-provoking questions.
When the manuscript is complete, determining the illustrations will be the focus. I’m once again loving the process as much as the product. I look forward to sharing some preview illustrations when they are ready, and in late spring we will have a cover reveal and a chapter preview as well.
Meanwhile, wooly moon books is a great place to start your holiday shopping!
Although there are more picture books waiting for their chance to become part of the wooly moon catalogue, I’ve spent the last 6 months working on my first chapter book. At first, it seemed quite daunting to even think I could create something longer than the traditional 32-page picture book. But with the generous support of the Mustard Seed Bookstore in Bath, Maine, I’ve found a writing sanctuary where I show up three times a week and write, write, write.
This week I’ll be talking with my editor at Book Bridge Press and we will decide how to move forward with this project. What a delight it is to have characters tell you who they are and what they are doing – especially when it turns out they have a totally different idea than what you expected to write!
Here’s to being brave and trying something out of your comfort zone!!!
Everyone reaches crossroads in their lives and must make decisions as to which direction to turn. My daughter and I both arrived at a crossroad at the same time. She has decided to close her brick and mortar quilt shop and become an online retailer only. I have found success with my independently published books and patterns and find myself needing more time to keep up with those pursuits. In the near future, you will be able to purchase and download PDF versions of my quilt patterns from her website, www.marinerscompass.com. The patterns will also be available for PDF purchase at QuiltWoman.com in a few months. My books will continue to be available from my website or by emailing me at email@example.com. If you live in Maine, please check with your local independent bookstore or gifts shop, also. Here’s to new adventures!
